City Council Meeting Minutes--December 23, 2024

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE STAUNTON CITY COUNCIL, HELD IN THE RALPH & JOSEPHINE OLTMANN COMMUNITY CENTER, 101 W. PEARL ST., STAUNTON, ILLINOIS ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2024

 

I.          CALL TO ORDER:

 

            Mayor Craig Neuhaus called the Staunton City Council Meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, December 23, 2024.

 

II.        PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:

 

            Mayor Craig Neuhaus led the Pledge Allegiance to the Flag.

 

 III.      ROLL CALL:

 

            City Clerk Stiegemeier called roll with the following persons:

 

            ATTENDING:  Aldermen David Manning, David Dias, Kristy Berg, Ryan Machota,  Terry Tipler, Mayor Craig Neuhaus, City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier, City Treasurer Cindy Pirok and Public Works Director Mike Kuethe.

 

            ELECTRONIC ATTENDANCE:  City Attorney Phil Lading.

 

            NOT ATTENDING:  Alderman Matthew McKee and Police Chief Jeff Doerr.

Please be sure to turn in your Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Certificates of Participation to the City Clerk’s Office by December 31st.

 

The City Clerk’s Office will be closed on December 24th and 25th for the Christmas holiday and January 1st for the New Year holiday. 

 

IX.      COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

 

PUBLIC HEALTH & SAFETY  -

 

Motion by Manning, seconded by Tipler to approve Quote from Axon Enterprises, Inc. for Pro-Licenses for all police officers at the cost up to $3,208.50.  The cost for this program would be in effect for 34 months.  At Roll Call Vote – Ayes:  Berg, Machota, Tipler, Manning, Dias.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  McKee.  Motion carried.

 

            PARK & CIVIC IMPROVEMENT –

 

Nothing to report.

           

FINANCE–

 

Nothing to report.

 

WATER-.

 

Motion by Berg, seconded by Manning to pay Invoice #S1223423.001 to Schulte Supply for stock Radio Read Water Meters in the amount of $3,959.40.  At Roll Call Vote – Ayes:             Machota, Tipler, Manning, Dias, Berg.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  McKee.  Motion carried. 

           

STREET / SEWER

 

Motion by Machota, seconded by Dias to approve Quote #9504 from Coe Equipment, Inc. for a Digging Lance Package at a  cost not to exceed $4,000.00.  This will be paid half from sewer, new equipment and water, new equipment.  At Roll Call Vote – Ayes:  Tipler, Manning, Dias, Berg, Machota.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  McKee.  Motion carried. 

                                               

Motion by Machota, seconded by Tipler to pay Invoice #126705 to Fehr Graham Engineering & Envinronmental For Design, Bidding and Construction Services rendered on the North Street Lift Station & Force Main Project in the amount of $19,800.00.  This will be paid from Budget Line Item 52.43.898.0.  At Roll Call Vote – Ayes:  Manning, Dias, Berg, Machota, Tipler.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  McKee.  Motion carried. 

 

Motion by Machota, seconded by Tipler to pay Invoice #127752 to Fehr Graham Engineering & Envinronmental For Design, Bidding and Construction Services rendered on the North Street Lift Station & Force Main Project in the amount of $33,000.00.  This will be paid from Budget Line Item 52.43.898.0.  At Roll Call Vote – Ayes:  Dias, Berg, Machota, Tipler, Manning.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  McKee.  Motion carried.

XI.      NEW BUSINESS-

 

Over the last few weeks, the Staunton Chamber of Commerce, the Concordia Hall and the Staunton Lions Club all had Snack with Santa events and toy give-aways for kids in the community.  All of the events were well attended and it was great to see the organizations all come together to help local families to have a brighter Christmas.
